Public Comment Period for the Sonoma County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 20, 2025

Plan update

The County of Sonoma is updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan for the County and 23 of its municipalities and special districts. The mitigation projects that are identified in the plan will reduce vulnerability and increase community resiliency to disasters.

A hazard mitigation plan (HMP) is “the representation of the jurisdiction’s commitment to reduce risks from natural hazards, serving as a guide for decision makers as they commit resources to reducing the effects of natural hazards”. The planning process is as important as the plan itself because it creates a framework for governments to reduce the negative impacts from future disasters on lives, property, and the economy.

Public Comment Period

The public comment period for the Sonoma County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan will run from October 20 - November 10, 2025. During this time, the full draft plan will be available on the County of Sonoma website for the public and partners to review and provide feedback and input on. Your input will help ensure the plan reflects local experiences, priorities, and solutions, and will strengthen the county’s ability to secure state and federal funding for future resilience projects.
