Measure H Sales Tax Funded Projects

Measure H, the “Improved and Enhanced Local Fire Protection, Paramedic Services and Disaster Response” Transaction and Use Tax was passed by Sonoma County's voters in March 2024. Measure H authorizes a countywide one-half-cent special transaction and use tax (sales tax) to supplement existing funding for wildfire prevention and preparedness, paramedic services, and emergency and disaster response.

The following vegetation management projects were funded by the countywide sales tax:

Hacienda Area Communities 

Dates: In progress, Started September 2025

Vegetation management along roads that serve as evacuation routes and/or are dead end. Treatment being performed in the County of Sonoma’s road right-of-way. Treatment areas were developed by community groups including Communities Organized to Prepare for Emergency (COPE) and homeowner associations using a community-based planning process (Community Wildfire Protection Plan or Firewise USA Action Plan). The project is in partnership with the County of Sonoma Public Infrastructure (PI), Permit Sonoma Chipper Program Crew, and CAL FIRE.

Mark West Springs Road/Porter Creek Road 

Dates: In Progress, Started August 2025

Vegetation management along Mark West Springs Road from Ursuline Road to Porter Creek and all of Porter Creek Road. Treatment being performed in the County of Sonoma’s road right-of-way. This project is in partnership with the County of Sonoma Public Infrastructure (PI) who is providing traffic control and equipment.  Most cut material is being hauled away. CAL FIRE personnel are providing wildfire ignition mitigation for the PI mower. Project is occurring one day per week. Project started as a CAL FIRE and PI project in August 2025.

Mark West Springs Road
Seaview Road 

Dates: In Progress, Started August 2025

Vegetation management along Seaview Road that is not in the coastal zone or a State Park. Treatment is being performed up to 30 feet from the edge of the pavement where property owner consent has been obtained. Cut material being chipped with chips left onsite. The project is in partnership with CAL FIRE.

Seaview Road
Stewarts Point - Skaggs Springs Roadside Shaded Fuel Break 

Dates: In Progress, Started July 2025

Vegetation management along Stewarts Point-Skaggs Springs Road. Project started near Hillside Ranch to support future prescribed burning. Project will be ongoing and may take several years to complete. Treatment being performed up to 30 feet from the edge of the pavement except on Hillside Ranch where treatment area is larger. Cut material is being piled for prescribed burning on Hillside Ranch. Cut material nearest the road is being chipped. The project was in partnership with the Permit Sonoma Chipper Program Crew.

West Sweetwater Springs Road Project 

Dates: April - July 2025

Vegetation management along Sweetwater Springs Road between 4900 Sweetwater Springs Road and Armstrong Woods Road. Treatment was performed up to 30 feet from the edge of the pavement where property owner consent was obtained. Cut material was chipped with chips left onsite. The project is in partnership with CAL FIRE.

East Old Cazadero Road Project 

Dates: February & March 2025

Vegetation management along Old Cazadero Rd between Camino Del Arroyo and gated end of the road where property owner consent was obtained. Treatment was performed up to 30 feet from the edge of the pavement. Cut material was chipped with chips left onsite. The project is in partnership with CAL FIRE.

South Chalk Hill Road Project 

Dates: January  -  April 2025

Vegetation management along Chalk Hill Road between Spurgeon Road and Pleasant Avenue where property owner permission was obtained. Treatment was performed up to 30 feet from the edge of the pavement. Cut material was chipped with chips left onsite.  The project was in partnership with the Permit Sonoma Chipper Program Crew.
